August 26--Van Haaften Finds Time
Van Haaften Shows Afterall! Candidate Van Haaften's campaign called late this afternoon to say he WOULD make our meeting. He arrived at about 7:40 and answered questions for nearly an hour. No earth-shattering news, but he did present a thoughtful, deliberate persona. He's a Blue Dog--a major problem--who admits when he doesn't know "the" answer. We appreciate that he found time for us.
August 26--Van Haaften Snubs Veterans
Trent Van Haaften cancelled his scheduled appearance at tonight's Veterans For Peace meeting. The campaign said he's in the northern part of the district this afternoon.
One can only hope this indifference to veterans doesn't foreshadow his tenure as a Representative if he's elected!

Troops with "mild" Traumatic Brain Injuries ignored by DoD
NPR and Pro Publica investigated the military's handling of troops with so-called "mild" Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). The results of this investigation are shameful...at least 40% of TBI cases unreported, non-existent or inconsistent care, lowballing the seriousness of the problem...We are not surprised. The NPR report also captures the tragic personal toll of untreated TBI.
